World Ocean Day - June 8, 2009

The United Nations has declared June 8 to be World Ocean Day 2009, with the theme “One Ocean, One Climate, One Future”. World Ocean Day has been celebrated unofficially since 1992 when it was first proposed by the Canadian government. The official designation by the UN is a significant step in focusing attention on the need for stewardship of the world’s oceans.
